The Eatwell guide outlines the recommendations for eating a healthy balanced diet. The guide shows the different types of food and drinks you should consume - and in what proportions - every day or over a week.

A healthy, balanced diet is important for good health; it can improve your wellbeing with MS and reduce the risk of conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and osteoporosis. It can also help keep your skin in good condition, to protect it from getting sore and damaged. This could be important if you spend a long time sitting or lying down.

What do Dieticians do?

The Hereford Dietetic Department has 11 qualified dietitians, one assistant practitioner and two dietetic assistants. They are based in The County Hospital. They support people to eat better to improve their health. Dietitians can help support you to:

  • Follow a healthy balanced diet to obtain all the vitamins and minerals required for health
  • Help support you to manage your weight whether you would like to lose weight or gain weight
  • Help support you to manage gut symptoms

You can ask your GP or MS nurse to refer you if you would like some support.
